Can I add child folders to a folder with targets in a DFS namespace?

A. There are two types of folders in a DFS namespace: folders with targets that link to file shares on servers and folders with no targets. The latter are normally created to give structure to the namespace hierarchy.

You can add new folders as child objects to a folder with no targets, and these new folders can optionally have targets associated with them(making them link to shares). You can’t add child folder objects to a folder that already has targets associated with it because once a client accesses a folder with targets, the system redirects the client away from the DFS structure to the targeted file share, and the client would no longer see any other child DFS items.
