90GB of Flash Might Presage Xbox Storage System

M-Systems, which recently announced a deal to supply Microsoft with flash technology for the next-generation Xbox, has announced a new 90GB flash memory drive. The solid-state 2.5" Ultra ATA drive looks like a typical hard drive, but its use of flash memory lets it more easily resist shock and vibrations. The flash memory drive is also extremely fast and useful for data-intense applications such as video recording. Don't expect to run out and buy the drive tomorrow, though: It carries a whopping price tag of $40,000. We take a ton of high-quality photos at trade shows and would love the additional storage, but we'll wait for the price to drop a little. Expect the drive to be used in military and aerospace applications for the short term
