David's IT/Dev Connection sessions:
Recently, we asked David to give us a little information about himself. Here's what he shared:
ITDC: Give us a brief introduction to you.
David: My name is David Klee, and I'm the Founder of Heraflux Technologies. I'm lucky enough to be both a Microsoft MVP and VMware vExpert, and focus on how infrastructure, cloud, and databases converge and interact.
ITDC: Describe the sessions you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.
David: I'm presenting two sessions. The first is 'Business Continuity for Virtual SQL Servers'. As DBAs, our primary job responsibility is to ensure that the data will be available, no matter the situation. The business continuity strategies used by the infrastructure teams might actually hinder the DBAs ability to fulfill the availability requirements of the databases. The DBAs can leverage various tools and features already in place at the virtualization and cloud layers that the might not be aware of to improve and complement their availability strategy. This session is designed to show them the power of the platform underneath their data to improve and complement their availability strategies.
ITDC: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your sessions?
David: My goal for these sessions to have a huge list of tips and tricks that they can take back and start testing in their own environments. Every environment is different, and every tip can have different implications, but the list is huge and with proper testing, the attendees are sure to have a number of tips that can improve the availability and performance of their database systems.
ITDC: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT/Dev Connections?
David: This is a great conference! I love the variety of sessions, each of which are very technical in nature and focused on real-world applications of the Microsoft technologies being focused on in the sessions.
ITDC: What is the one key technology you believe is changing the technology industry right now?
David: Cloud is here to stay, but the mix of legacy and new apps, some of which are cloud-ready but most are not, is making cloud providers double back into on-premises management. Hybrid cloud scenarios, where you can pick the most ideal placement of the app stack, intrigues me the most because it mixes database, application, infrastructure, and business management practices in one challenge that spans all silos in IT organizations.
ITDC: Assuming attendees want to know, what’s your favorite, non-technical hobby or pastime? What’s one thing that totally irks you.
David: I'm a motoring enthusiast, and love leveraging technology (go figure) to improve the performance and handling of vehicles. If it has at least three wheels and a motor, I generally want to be a part of it! I also love to get away from tourist traps and enjoy nature's scenery. Our recent move to Maine to get closer to the beauty of the New England coastline has given me a lot of opportunities to get away and see more of the country.
