New Unified OneDrive Sync Client Offers IT Management Features

New Unified OneDrive Sync Client Offers IT Management Features

Microsoft today has announced a new sync client for OneDrive, available in preview. The new client provides improved sync reliability and an easier installation, but also represents a unified set of code for both OneDrive for Business and OneDrive consumer for the first time.

The new client can be downloaded and installed for a PC or Mac. It’s less than 10 MB in size, making it easier on network bandwidth to deploy from a central location. A key feature in the new client is the ability to choose which folders to sync.

For those customers that utilize OneDrive for Business, Microsoft has also included special business functionality. The new client allows IT administrators management options over the sync client, including blocking sync for the OneDrive consumer service and enabling central selection for sync folder location defaults.

The new client preview is available for both Mac (OS X 10.9 and later) and PC (Windows 7, 8 and 10, with support for Windows 8.1 being added in Q1 2016).
