Many organizations are dipping their toes into the cloud by building a hybrid cloud environment. Combining on-premise components with public cloud services such as Azure can provide the best of both worlds, especially in one of the biggest areas of cost concern for IT pros: storage and connectivity to that storage.
If you’re among the IT pros planning a hybrid cloud setup and making related storage decisions, tune in to this TechNet Radio session by Keith Mayer and Brian Lewis. “Building a Hybrid Cloud” discusses how to manage data storage by using System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager (VMM). Mayer and Lewis talk about the following:
- Major storage challenges facing IT organizations, particularly regarding costs and implementation
- How VMM can help IT pros overcome these challenges
- Dealing with mixed storage and management solutions
- Solving capacity and end-of-life issues
- SMB 3.0 and other new and upcoming storage technologies
“EMC and NetApp and many of storage partners that have appliance devices in the NAS space, they’ve seen such huge improvements with SMB 3.0, just over 10GbE,” says Mayer. “They’ve seen such advantages from a simplicity, lower cost, and performance standpoint that they’re really touting it as the next storage protocol for Windows Server and Windows Client storage connectivity. Our storage team has done a great job of making the SMB 3.0 specification an open specification that anyone can adopt as part of their storage stack.”
This episode is Part 7 of a series. Part 1 also discusses hybrid cloud storage, and Part 2 talks about Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V enhancements. Plus, you can find out more about enterprise storage solutions and options on the Microsoft Enterprise Storage page.
