Make Informed Storage Decisions with Free StorTrends iData Software Analysis Tool

American Megatrends recently announced the availability of its free software tool, StorTrends iDATA, where organizations can get a handle on their entire IT infrastructure's performance, capacity, and throughput requirements. According to the company, this tool helps organizations understand their environment's pain points before they become an issue to make informed decisions about storage.

The StorTrends iDATA tool works by running an analysis unobtrusively in the background of the organization's infrastructure for seven days. Once the analysis is complete, the tool generates a report that provides key metrics, including capacity utilization, IOPS usage, reads versus writes for volumes, network bandwidth performance, server statistics, and application information. With this information, organizations are free to create a short-term or long-term strategy with high confidence.

"Our research finds that one of the key reasons storage installations fail is that IT administrators lack the accurate information needed to properly provision the performance, capacity and throughput the environment requires to deliver optimum storage efficiency," said Deni Connor, founding analyst at SSG-NOW. "[The StorTrends iDATA tool] provides the key details organizations need, such as the amount of IOPS a SAN requires, the environment's expected growth rate, and the amount of hot data or active data – to more accurately achieve your storage goals and eliminate the need to overprovision costly storage resources."
