The third annual Amazon Prime Day is upon us, a daylong shopping extravaganza with bargains available exclusively to people who have already paid $99 for an annual membership, or those who are taking the Amazon Prime membership for a spin with a 30-day free trial. It's like Black Friday, only without having to stand in line for doorbuster sales.
So is it worth your while if you're in the market to upgrade your tech? Possibly. We'll be keeping an eye out for bargains. Here's what we'll be doing, if you want to follow along.
STEP ONE: Join Amazon Prime, if we haven't already. Full disclosure -- I got sucked into Prime membership years ago. But you do have the option to do a 30-day free trial or, if you're a student, a six month trial.
STEP TWO: If you're an Amazon customer already, start adding stuff to your shopping list. (It's different from your wish list -- you get to it by clicking the "Shopping List" option on the pop-up menu that appears when you select "Add to List." You'll want to add things to your list now so you can see what, if any, price reductions there are tomorrow.
STEP THREE: Download the Amazon mobile app. Visit amazon.com/app from your mobile browser to download the app. You'll want to do this because you'll also get a heads-up on new deals.
To quote Amazon: "Go to 'Today’s Deals,' click 'Upcoming' to view all deals 24 hours before they are live, and then tap 'Watch this deal.' The app will alert you when that deal is starting."
STEP FOUR: Loop your Alexa into the fun. If you've got an Alexa device, you'll get access to deals starting at 4 p.m. PDT/7 p.m. EDT -- this means you're using your voice to ask for deals and complete your orders.
