Do you know of a beginning-level computer-based training course for scripting? My primary interests include Windows Script Host (WSH) and VBScript.
I'm aware of one Windows Script (WS)—related computer-based training course titled "Visual Basic Course 1080: Essentials of Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition 3.0 for Web Site Development." Despite the course's name, this hands-on, self-paced tutorial includes a module about WSH 1.0. Unfortunately, the course is out of date, and I'm unaware of any plans to update it. You might be interested to learn that Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) recently released two instructor-led WS courses that cover a variety of topics, including WSH 2.0, VBScript, Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI), and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The course numbers and titles are
- "Course 2433: Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition and Microsoft Windows Script Host Essentials" (3-day course)
- "Course 2439: Scripting Using Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation" (2-day course)
Microsoft Certified Technical Education Centers (CTECs) offer these two courses nationwide. In many cases, CTECs offer the courses back-to-back so that you can attend both courses in one week. You can examine the courses' prerequisites and outlines and locate scheduled classes on the Microsoft Training & Certification Web site. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/default.asp and select Training Resources, Find Training. Click Find a Course, enter 2433 or 2439 in the Course Number field, and click Search.
To ensure that you obtain a positive training experience, I recommend that you shop around before selecting a CTEC. Systems-administration scripting is a new skill to many Windows systems administrators, including CTEC instructors.
